I live in a historic house on thirty-four acres along the bank of the middle fork of the Willamette River, just outside of Springfield, Oregon. My husband, Dave, and I have lived here for years, and this past summer I wanted to see if our little old house was a possibility for the National Historic Registry. For 25 years we had understood that the house was built in 1885. However the consensus among the professionals was that my house was not built in 1885. It was built in 1874! The application was sent to the National Historic Registry and it sailed through. We purchased a plaque and attached it to the front, outside wall of house, for all to see.
